This case illustrates the importance of distinguishing between healthcare associated pneumonia (HCAP) and community-acquired pneuomonia (CAP). HCAP is associated with higher risk of infection by resistant bacteria than CAP. Consequently, selection of initial antibiotic therapy is different.
